Host Broadcast Services

The host broadcast of major international sports events has become so specialised that it is best done by specialist companies. In just a few years, this vital function - once a cost and an obligation which fell heavily on the shoulders of the national broadcaster in the host country - is now a service of great value to sport, ensuring that the highest possible quality content is delivered to broadcast partners.

"In-Stat forecasts the worldwide retail value of digital terrestrial set top boxes will "blast off" in 2006 and be a $10 billion market by 2009, led by the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany and the 2008 Beijing Olympics"

Leading the industry through innovation in sport

Host Broadcast Services is unique and independent - a dedicated broadcast organisation that can work anywhere in the world.

Created in 1999, it has been able to lead the television industry in the coverage of sport on HDTV and inspire significant changes in the way in which major events provide the "signal" to broadcasters.

HBS was created as a single purpose company, to manage the host broadcast of the FIFA World Cup™.  In 2006 it has been appointed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa and successfully delivered the host broadcast of the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 (in joint venture with TWI). HBS is also providing consultancy and host broadcast services to other events, including the America's Cup.

HBS's role could best be summarised as "from pitch to home viewer." It includes every aspect of the production of the signal for the FIFA World Cup™. These responsibilities are considerable. They include filming and transmitting the signal, as well as providing broadcasters with unilateral production, transmission and commentary facilities and services; managing the International Broadcast Centre (IBC), as well as the multilateral and unilateral broadcast facilities at the IBC and the stadiums where matches are played.
