Infront signs key package of FIFA rights with Ukraine TV
Sport:
Zug, Switzerland, 28 June 2005 – Infront Sports & Media has signed an exclusive television agreement with JSC Ukrainian Independent TV Corporation for an important package of FIFA broadcast rights, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™.
The company controls the largest commercial station in the Ukraine — TV Channel Inter — and its involvement will help to ensure the maximum television audience can follow the events on television, especially as Ukraine is likely to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™. It has purchased exclusive Free TV rights for the Ukraine territory in the Ukraine language, including the right to sub-license.
The rights package includes all 64 matches of next year's FIFA World Cup™ in Germany, as well as the exclusive rights to the Official Preview Series of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, which is being produced by Infront Sports & Media in association with FIFA (16 x 26-minute programmes).
The company has also acquired rights to the FIFA World Youth Championship 2005 (Under –20) currently taking place in the Netherlands, with the final on 2 July. This will be the 13th edition of this event, one of the most important international events in the FIFA calendar, with 24 participating teams and 52 matches. The event is a great talent showcase – over the years, hundreds of former players have gone on to participate in the FIFA World Cup™.
Oliver Seibert, an Executive Director of Infront, said: "We are very pleased to have contracted with the largest nationwide operating station in the Ukraine. The Ukraine National Team looks as if it is going to qualify for the FIFA World Cup™ for the first time in history and the television market in this country is growing very fast – these two factors will ensure a record impact for top international football over the next two years."
